{"id":3224,"date":"2022-08-25T13:06:47","date_gmt":"2022-08-25T12:06:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lifegarachico.eu\/?p=3224"},"modified":"2022-08-25T13:06:48","modified_gmt":"2022-08-25T12:06:48","slug":"acciones-ciudadanos-cambio-climatico","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lifegarachico.eu\/en\/acciones-ciudadanos-cambio-climatico\/","title":{"rendered":"Actions as citizens that help curb climate change"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Currently, the <strong>climate change<\/strong> it is influencing the proliferation of adverse weather events around the world, the rise in sea level, deforestation and affects many aspects of our daily lives.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For the areas of Macaronesia, an increase in the frequency of extreme events is expected between 2010 and 2100. These facts entail the necessary implementation of adaptation strategies to climate change and its effects on coastal flooding in urban areas, in order to to reduce socioeconomic and environmental impacts in the Macaronesian region. The project <strong>LIFE Garachico<\/strong> It consists of the creation and implementation of a flexible strategy in order to reduce the risk of flooding, based on the involvement of citizens and public authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to data from the European Commission, the main factor of climate change is <strong>greenhouse effect<\/strong>, produced by the emission of gases into the atmosphere. Although there are gases that occur naturally, human action has produced an increase in the concentrations of some of them, causing the sun&#039;s heat to be trapped and unable to escape into outer space.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What if each of us like <strong>citizens<\/strong> commit ourselves to contribute to curbing climate change?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Any small action counts positively for the planet, so we want to propose some of them below:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Recycle<\/strong>: dividing waste according to whether it is organic, paper, plastic or glass saves CO2 emissions.<\/li><li><strong>Control water consumption<\/strong> not to waste Water is a very precious commodity, and there are many areas that are suffering from drought. Making use of faucets that reduce the flow of water, turning off the faucet when the water is not being used or using the shower instead of the bathtub are good practices for this purpose.\u00a0<\/li><li><strong>Save electricity<\/strong>: Some examples would be changing the lights in the house for LED bulbs, turning off the &#039;stand by&#039; of electrical devices, as well as the light when leaving a room.<\/li><li><strong>Reduce car journeys<\/strong>: if you have the possibility to make your daily journeys on foot, by bike, or by public transport, do not hesitate. According to the European Commission, each liter of fuel consumed by the car represents about 2.5 kilos of CO2 emitted into the atmosphere.<\/li><li><strong>Buy local products<\/strong>: Also called \u201cKilometer 0 products\u201d, they refer to seasonal products that are grown near the place where they are sold. Taking these types of products into account when making purchases boosts the local economy and reduces polluting emissions from imported transport.<\/li><li><strong>Increase consumption of fruits and vegetables<\/strong>.
