On April 18, the fourth meeting of the Monitoring Committee of the LIFE Garachico project was held in the municipality of Garachico in person and online, where the technical and financial progress of the project was presented.

The meeting was attended by 21 people, 11 in person and 10 online, belonging to the consortium of 11 partners that make up the project work team: the Government of the Canary Islands, the Cabildo Insular de Tenerife, the Garachico City Council, the Puerto de la Cruz, IH Cantabria, GRAFCAN, National Civil Engineering Laboratory, Tragsa Group, University of La Laguna, EVM Group and elittoral.

The meeting consisted of a morning session, where a general review of the financial progress of the project was carried out and the preparatory actions that have been carried out to conclude the first stage of this initiative that seeks to define a strategic framework for flexible adaptation to the coastal municipalities of Macaronesia, in order to increase their resilience against extreme, current and future coastal events, due to climate change.
Among the most outstanding actions are the installation of cameras on the coastline to start the Artificial Intelligence training process, laboratory tests in a wave channel, current meter anchoring and bathymetric survey.
Throughout this stage, the different outreach activities carried out and the active participation of citizens with surveys, workshops, neighborhood meetings and different meetings with associations, groups of the elderly and merchants were also key. Finally, the optimizations were presented on the web page.

In the afternoon, the partners involved in the implementation of the hard measures of the project met with the engineer who will be in charge of drafting the technical project for the works. To this was added the participation of the ULL field researcher in order to transfer all the advances in this field to the residents of Garachico during the neighborhood meetings held in the municipality.
