The Canary Islands, the epicenter of the fight against climate change, have witnessed the National Meeting of the Covenant of Mayors 2024, held on January 30 and 31 in Gran Canaria and Tenerife, respectively.

The event, organized by the Office of the Covenant of Mayors, in collaboration with the Island Council of Gran Canaria, the Island Council of Tenerife and with the support of the Canarian Federation of Municipalities (FECAM), has brought together municipal leaders, experts in climate change and civil society representatives in a joint effort to address environmental challenges.

During today's session, whose main focus has revolved around crucial issues for the Canarian municipalities, such as adaptation to climate change, the Head of the Climate Change and Environmental Information Service, Gustavo Pestana, presented the objectives and actions of the project LIFE Garachico, focused on improving the capacity to anticipate and respond to flood events, contributing to the present and future well-being of the Atlantic islands.
