The company Elittoral, a member of the LIFE Garachico project consortium (LIFE20 CCA/ES/001641), has carried out a bathymetric survey in the Garachico area that will allow us to know in detail the depths of the most vulnerable areas.

Bathymetry (the marine equivalent to altimetry on the earth's surface) allows us to obtain information not only on depth, but also on the structure and relief of the seabed. Elittoral carried out the survey with a Multibeam Echosounder, from which a map with a resolution in centimeters of the seabed will be obtained. This information will allow the team members to simulate the wave propagation on the cartography in the area of interest.

For this phase, 240 hectares were raised off the coast of Garachico, specifically in the area shown in the image:

The equipment used during the campaign is a Multibeam Echosounder (MBE) from the manufacturer Norbit, which makes it possible to carry out mapping of the seabed up to -150m deep.

The surveys were carried out between October 24 and 25, with the support of local fishermen.

The data collected during the field campaign will be used to generate the cartography required by the numerical model that will feed the early warning system. This highly accurate system will allow the municipality of Garachico to anticipate and prepare for the risk of coastal flooding.

Elittoral, is an environmental consultancy, specialized in carrying out coastal and oceanographic engineering studies in the marine environment.
