Within the framework of the European LIFE-GARACHICO project, members of the Port and Maritime Structures Unit of the LNEC were between February 5 and 7, 2024 in the municipality of Praia da Vitória, on the island of Terceira, to carry out surveys among the population and participate in a series of meetings with the interested parties of the region: the City Council of Praia da Vitória, the Municipal Civil Protection Service of Praia da Vitória, the Volunteer Fire Department of Praia da Vitória and Portos dos Açores, SA .
These meetings were aimed at establishing partnerships and acquiring information on guidelines to be adopted in emergencies arising from coastal flooding.
The survey aimed to analyze the perception of the local population on coastal flooding events and their position on the possible application of measures to reduce the impact of these events.
