Yesterday, LNEC colleagues met with members of the Civil Protection of Praia da Vitória to discuss matters related to the improvements of the Early Warning System of Praia da Vitória (Terceira) and the adaptation and self-protection measures that are installed in the municipality when there is a risk of flooding.
The Civil Protection Coordinator of Praia da Vitória stated that said Early Warning System is a valuable tool for day-to-day decision making and explained the existing protocols with the Municipal Police (PSP) and the National Maritime Authority (AMN). ). A collaboration process was initiated between the LNEC and the Praia da Vitória Civil Protection and a communication line was established for the validation of alerts and the identification of improvements in the system.
Understanding the needs of risk managers will allow the generation of appropriate alerts to act quickly and effectively against coastal flooding, thus improving the resilience of the municipality's inhabitants.
